Ship-breaking Environmental Assessment and Waste Management

Alang in western Gujarat is the world’s largest ship breaking destination. Ships which are past their operational life are dismantled here. This calls for consistent and efficient treatment facilities to ensure assessment of the volume and type of waste generated, safe removal of the waste, and disposal and stabilization.

All ships dismantled at Alang need to provide a detailed declaration of hazardous materials they carry. Waste from ships typically contain considerable ACM (Asbestos Containing Material), PCBs and TBTs.

The GEPIL ship breaking team trained and certified in France, effectively assesses and treats all such toxic wastes. Our services include:

• Assesment of Wastes prior to Beaching
• Technical and Legal support for Beaching and Breaking
• Design Development and Execution of the Ship Breaking Plan
• Safe Removal of all Hazardous Wastes
• Collection, Transportation, Storage, Treatment and Disposal of Hazardous Wastes
• Provide training for all ship breaking activities and Asbestos removal
